A Splendid Little War (2nd Edition): The 1898 Santiago Campaign is a historical wargame covering the land campaign in Cuba during the Spanish-American War, from the opening U.S. attacks on July 1st to the Spanish surrender on July 14th, 1898.
The game gives players the full Santiago campaign in a moderately complex format, with a broad range of period forces and battlefield assets. Rough Riders, Cuban and Spanish guerrillas, Gatling guns, engineers, artillery, the U.S. Observation Balloon, and Spanish defensive positions all help shape the fight.
The U.S. forces bring stronger firepower and artillery, but the campaign is far from simple. Dug-in Spanish defenders, the threat of a relief column, and the effects of Yellow Fever can wear down the attackers and turn early confidence into a hard-fought struggle.
Alongside the full campaign game, the box includes shorter scenarios covering El Caney, San Juan Hill, and the combined first day of the campaign. The second edition streamlines the rules and adds features such as a new Fire CRT, junior leaders including Teddy Roosevelt, and Yellow Fever rules.
Contents include: one full-colour 22" x 34" map, 352 counters, a 24-page rulebook, six player aids, three scenarios, and the full campaign game.
