Brief Border Wars is a Compass Games quadrigame covering four short border conflicts from the 20th and 21st centuries. Each game uses a shared card-driven system designed to capture the chaotic, improvised, stop-and-start nature of brief wars fought under political pressure and operational uncertainty.
The four conflicts included are the Football War between El Salvador and Honduras in 1969, the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, the Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979, and the Second Lebanon War between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. Each game has its own map, situation and special rules while remaining part of a common, accessible system.
The result is a varied package of compact historical wargames. Turkey must establish and exploit a beachhead in Cyprus, China must handle separated fronts and determined Vietnamese resistance, and Israel must locate and destroy Hezbollah rocket forces while managing escalation and mobilization. The smaller size of each game makes Brief Border Wars well suited to players who want interesting modern conflicts without a full-day commitment.
With each game playable in around one to two hours, Brief Border Wars is a strong choice for players interested in lesser-known conflicts, short operational puzzles and compact card-driven wargames.
Contents include: four 17″ x 22″ maps, one countersheet with 176 9/16″ counters, four player aid cards, one set of 54 cards, one rulebook, two 6-sided dice, and one box and lid set.
