France ’40 is an operational WWII wargame covering the decisive German breakthrough in May 1940, when panzer divisions crossed the Meuse and raced toward the Channel.
The game begins after the opening moves of Case Yellow, with German forces at the Meuse and Allied armies already committed forward in Belgium. From there, both sides face tense choices: the Germans must force crossings and maintain momentum, while the Allies scramble to counterattack, reinforce, and avoid encirclement.
Designed by Mark Simonitch, France ’40 emphasizes armor, air support, morale, and command limitations. Special rules cover Allied heavy armor, French command paralysis, Rommel and De Gaulle’s initiative, and Hitler’s Halt Order.
This is a strong choice for players interested in fast-moving operational WWII campaigns where timing, uncertainty, and reaction matter as much as raw strength.
Contents include: two paper maps, two countersheets, rulebook, player aid cards, and two six-sided dice.
