One player commands the English, attempting to pacify Scotland by controlling its key nobles and strongholds. The Scottish player must win noble allegiance, resist English pressure and keep the fight for independence alive. The result is a tense strategic contest where loyalty, timing and manoeuvre matter as much as battlefield strength.

The wooden block system creates fog of war and uncertainty, while event cards add historical flavour and changing opportunities. With an 8-page rulebook and a playing time of around 2–4 hours, Hammer of the Scots is one of Columbia’s most approachable and popular historical block games.
