Iron Curtain: NATO’s Central Front, 1945–1989 is a Standard Combat Series wargame covering potential “hot war” conflicts between NATO and the Warsaw Pact along the intra-German border.
The game spans the entire Cold War, with scenarios set in 1945, 1962, 1975, 1983, and 1989. Force structures, technology, doctrine, and political context all change across the period, creating very different versions of the Central Front depending on when war breaks out.
Most scenarios explore Warsaw Pact offensives into NATO territory, but the game also includes NATO offensive situations, including Operation Unthinkable in 1945, a possible escalation in 1983, and a 1989 scenario set against the weakening Warsaw Pact.
A variable pre-war “run-up” system means each side may have more or less time to deploy before fighting begins. This creates a wide range of possible starting situations, from surprise attack to near-full readiness.
Rules cover major Cold War battlefield developments, including nuclear and chemical warfare, powerful air effects, airmobile units, attack helicopters, airborne mechanised forces, amphibious operations, and even the Pentomic Division structure.
Using the clean and accessible SCS framework, Iron Curtain is a strong choice for players interested in Cold War gone hot scenarios, Central Front operations, and alternate-history conflicts across the full span of the Cold War.
Contents include: SCS rulebook version 1.8, Iron Curtain game-specific rulebook, one 22" x 34" map, four countersheets, eight scenarios, two full-colour player displays, two full-colour double-sided game charts and tables, box, and dice.
