NATO: The Next War in Europe, Designer Signature Edition

NATO: The Next War in Europe, Designer Signature Edition is an operational Cold War wargame simulating a Warsaw Pact invasion of Western Europe in the 1980s.

Players command NATO and Warsaw Pact forces across Central Europe during the first two weeks of a hypothetical war. Units include divisions, brigades, regiments, airborne troops, marines, air power, and abstract naval forces. Both sides must attack aggressively, use reserves, manage air and artillery support, and exploit breakthroughs before the battlefield becomes too costly to sustain.

This Designer Signature Edition updates Bruce Maxwell’s classic Victory Games design with revised research, new maps, updated orders of battle, larger components, new scenarios, and expanded player aids. Scenarios can be played with either 1983 or 1988 orders of battle, giving players a clear sense of how NATO rearmament changed the balance.

The game includes surprise attack, quiet preparation, extended buildup, and Denmark invasion scenarios, making it flexible enough for shorter sessions or larger Central Front battles. It is a strong fit for players interested in Cold War gone-hot scenarios, fast operational maneuver, and high-stakes modern warfare.
