Spring Prelude covers the Second Battle of Kharkov, from 12 to 27 May 1942. The game recreates the failed Soviet offensive to retake Kharkov and the German counterattack that created a major Soviet pocket.
It uses strength chit-pull mechanics descended from Victory in the West and VCS, with rules for rain, mud, swollen rivers, headquarters, air missions, and the command difficulties of the campaign.
