The included game, Vicksburg: The Assault on Stockade Redan, is a two-player tactical wargame simulating the Union attacks of 19 and 22 May 1863 against one of the strongest defensive positions on the Vicksburg perimeter. The Union player must assault and capture the earthworks overlooking Graveyard Road, while the Confederate player must hold the Redan and inflict heavy casualties.

Capturing the Redan does not automatically guarantee Union victory. If an assault succeeds, players consult the Gettysburg Matrix to determine whether the earlier collapse of Vicksburg changes Confederate strategy and affects Lee’s invasion of Pennsylvania.

Each turn represents 5 to 10 minutes, each hex represents 12.5 yards, and units represent companies or regiments depending on type.

Components include: one 22×34 inch map and 228 counters.
