The Fall of Tobruk: Rommel’s Greatest Victory

The Fall of Tobruk: Rommel’s Greatest Victory is an operational World War II wargame covering the Axis offensive against the Gazala-Bir Hakeim line in May-June 1942.

Players command Axis and Allied forces in the battle that led to the fall of Tobruk and the Allied retreat toward El Alamein. Units operate at battalion and company scale, with Rommel’s Afrika Korps and Italian formations facing the British, South African, Indian, and Free French forces of the Eighth Army.

This revised design uses chit-pull formation activation and a flexible Operations Phase, allowing players to decide when to move, fight, barrage, refit, or call in air strikes. Weather, air coordination, reserves, and desert maneuver all contribute to a fluid battlefield where timing and initiative matter.
