414 BC: Siege of Syracuse is a Worthington Great Sieges series game covering the Athenian siege of Syracuse during the Peloponnesian War. Designed for quick setup and fast play, it uses wooden troop and ship markers, command decisions, and a solitaire game engine to create a compact but tense siege experience.
This volume adds rules for constructing walls and counter-walls, making the siege feel very different from a simple assault on fixed defenses. The Athenian player must press the attack, build siege works, and try to blockade or break Syracuse before time runs out. The Syracusan side must hold out, counterattack, build counter-walls, and wear down Athenian morale.
The game is developed for solitaire play as the Athenians, with a two-player version also included. With a listed complexity of 3 out of 10, solitaire suitability of 10 out of 10, and a 30 to 60 minute playing time, 414 BC: Siege of Syracuse is a strong choice for players who want an accessible ancient siege game with meaningful decisions and a distinctive historical setting.
