The game places players in the Virginia Wilderness, where Union commander Joseph “Fighting Joe” Hooker attempted to trap Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia with a bold multi-pronged offensive. Lee, outnumbered but operating on interior lines and supported by Stonewall Jackson’s corps, turned the campaign into one of the Confederacy’s most famous battlefield victories.

Lee’s Greatest Victory uses an area-impulse system with an uncertain momentum structure, creating opportunities, reversals, and crises without letting either player calculate the whole turn too comfortably in advance. Union divisions, Confederate brigades, historical leaders, pontoon bridges, entrenchments, weather, and optional units all help bring the campaign to the table in a playable format.
