Against the Odds #60: Cities of the Damned – Aachen and Cassino is a magazine-format wargame issue featuring two solitaire games on brutal urban battles in 1944.
Product Type: Magazine issue with two included solitaire wargames.
Cities of the Damned covers the battles for Aachen and Cassino, two very different but equally punishing examples of the urban warfare faced by the Western Allies during the Second World War. Each game challenges the player to lead Allied forces through fortified terrain, prepared defenders, limited time, and the grinding cost of clearing cities the hard way.
Cassino, designed by Paul Rohrbaugh, focuses on the fight for the town and heights below Monte Cassino in Italy. Allied forces must overcome strong German defenses, difficult terrain, and the consequences of repeated assaults against one of the most famous positions of the Italian campaign.
Aachen, designed by Michael Rinella, covers the American assault on the first major German city to fall to the Western Allies. What was expected to be a rapid isolation-and-surrender operation becomes a dangerous street battle against bunkers, strongpoints, snipers, and determined defenders.
Contents include: two full-color 17” x 22” maps, 176 large 5/8” die-cut counters, 14 pages of rules, 2 pages of charts and tables, and Against the Odds issue #60.
