Armored Knights: Operation Gazelle is a modern-era operational wargame covering the Israeli offensive across the Suez Canal during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
The game focuses on the Israeli attempt to cross into Egypt, expand the bridgehead, and cut off Egyptian forces on the east side of the canal. The Israeli player has mobility, initiative, and eventually strong air support, but crossing the canal is only the beginning. Holding the crossing and widening the offensive are separate problems.
The Egyptian player must deal with command restrictions and the difficulty of counterattacking under uncertain conditions, but still has powerful infantry, anti-tank defenses, and the ability to make Israeli attacks costly.
The system operates at battalion level and emphasizes combined-arms support. Engineers, anti-tank units, reconnaissance, intelligence, and other support elements can help shape attacks and defenses, but they do not always perform exactly as planned. That gives the game a properly grognard feel: planning matters, but the battlefield still has opinions.
This is a strong choice for players interested in the Arab-Israeli wars, modern operational combat, and detailed but playable combined-arms decision-making.
Contents include: eight 11 x 17 inch color map sections, four color order of battle cards, and approximately 600 die-cut counters.
