Battle of Rosebud Creek

The Battle of Rosebud Creek covers one of the most important but often overshadowed battles of the 1876 Bighorn Campaign. Fought one week before Little Bighorn, Rosebud Creek saw General George Crook’s southern column engage a large Sioux and Northern Cheyenne force.

The battle was tactically inconclusive, with Crook holding the field after relatively limited casualties. Strategically, however, it was a major success for the Sioux and Cheyenne. Crook’s force expended large amounts of ammunition, suffered losses and exhaustion among its horses, and withdrew from the campaign rather than continuing north to link up with Terry and Custer.

The game focuses on the tactical fight at Rosebud Creek while showing why its outcome mattered. U.S. cavalry and infantry must contend with mobility, ammunition pressure, terrain, and the resilience of Native American forces fighting to stop the campaign before it can close around them.
