Brotherhood & Unity

Brotherhood & Unity is a 2-3 player card-driven wargame from Compass Games covering the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995. The game presents the conflict between Bosniak, Serb and Croat forces through point-to-point movement, strategy cards, shifting alliances and a careful balance between military action and international pressure.

The map covers Bosnia and Herzegovina, including a separate detailed treatment of Sarajevo. Players fight over key regions, supply lines and strategic spaces while managing limited resources and the changing military strength of each side. Units represent brigades, with different movement and combat values encouraging each faction to play according to its own strengths and weaknesses.

Cards drive the game’s action and historical events. Each card can be used for its event or for actions such as movement, attacks, redeployment, diplomacy and reinforcements. Since only part of each deck appears in any given game, Brotherhood & Unity has a built-in fog of war that keeps the political and military situation uncertain.

The game also includes Strategic Will and Foreign Attitude tracks, making victory about more than battlefield success. Capturing cities, losing units, creating refugee crises or triggering international reaction can all affect the course of the war. UN Safe Areas, NATO air strikes, supply shortages and diplomatic pressure mean that overextending militarily can carry serious consequences.

With streamlined rules and a full-game playing time of around two to three hours, Brotherhood & Unity will suit players interested in modern history, card-driven conflict games and tense three-sided struggles where today’s ally may become tomorrow’s opponent.

Contents include: one 22″ x 34″ mounted map, 260 9/16″ counters, 96 strategy cards in separate Serbian, Croatian and Bosniak decks, three player aid cards, one rulebook, one 10-sided die, and one box and lid set.
