Dominant Species (6th Printing)

Dominant Species is a strategic area-control game for 2 to 6 players, set at the edge of a coming Ice Age.

Each player controls one animal class—mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, arachnids, or insects—and competes to survive, spread, adapt, and dominate across a changing prehistoric landscape. The goal is not simply to occupy the most spaces, but to match your species’ needs to the environment better than your rivals.

Gameplay is driven by action pawn placement. Players choose actions such as growth, migration, competition, environmental change, and glaciation, then resolve them in order. This creates a sharp planning puzzle where timing matters and other players can disrupt your plans before they happen.

As the board expands and terrain changes, species rise and fall, dominance cards create powerful swings, and the advancing tundra gradually reshapes the world. The result is a highly interactive game with long-term strategy, tactical conflict, and plenty of pressure as the Ice Age closes in.

Dominant Species will appeal to players who enjoy deep strategy games, area control, indirect conflict, and systems where adaptation is just as important as expansion.
