Flanks of Gettysburg is a two-game American Civil War package from Compass Games, covering the desperate flank fighting at Little Round Top and Culp’s Hill on July 2, 1863. Each battle is treated as a separate two-player game, with one player commanding Union forces and the other leading the Confederates.
The game focuses on company-level combat, using a chit-pull system to create uncertainty and momentum. Regimental draw chits allow companies to move, volley fire or close for melee, while officers play an important role in issuing orders, rallying broken units and influencing close combat.
Both battles present different tactical challenges. At Culp’s Hill, the Union benefits from prepared positions but must handle reinforcements carefully. At Little Round Top, artillery, sharpshooters and the Confederate attempt to break through between Little and Big Round Tops create a tense fight over rough ground.
With two Rick Barber maps, manageable counter density and strong optional rules support, Flanks of Gettysburg offers a focused treatment of two famous Gettysburg actions that often deserve more attention than they receive in larger battle games.
Contents include: one 20-page rulebook, two double-sided player aids, two 22″ x 34″ battle maps, eight 10-sided dice, and 425 5/8″ counters.
