Gato Leader

Gato Leader brings the DVG Leader series to the Pacific submarine war, putting players in command of American submarines operating against the Empire of Japan.

You’ll decide where to send your boats, which patrol areas are worth the risk, and how to spend limited Special Operations Points on upgrades, intelligence, and special missions. Targets may be richer in dangerous waters, but submarines that do not come home cannot help the campaign.

When contact is made, play shifts to the tactical display, where submarines close with enemy groups, identify worthwhile targets, launch torpedoes, and try to survive escorts. The game also includes the infamous early-war torpedo problems, because apparently the enemy was not enough of a concern.

Built on the U-Boat Leader system, Gato Leader is a strong choice for solo players who enjoy campaign planning, hidden information, tactical attacks, and the tension of submarine warfare.

The game includes multiple US submarine classes and four campaigns covering different stages of the Pacific submarine war from 1942 through 1945.

Contents include: 110 full-color cards, 176 full-color counters, a tactical display sheet, ship display sheet, player aid sheet, and supporting game materials.
