Granada: The Last Stand of the Moors 1482-1492 is a two-player block wargame from Compass Games covering the final struggle between the Catholic Monarchs of Castile and Aragon and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada.
The game uses a point-to-point map of southeastern Iberia, with Granada itself as the decisive prize. One player commands the Christian forces, including Castilians, Aragonese, Leonese and mercenaries, while the other leads the Nasrid defenders and their rival clans. Wooden blocks hide strength and identity, adding uncertainty to campaigns, sieges and field battles.
Card play drives movement, recruitment, fleets and combat. Players must have the right cards available to bring forces into battle, making timing and preparation just as important as raw strength. Cavalry, crossbows, artillery, sieges and naval control all shape the campaign, while internal Nasrid divisions add pressure to the Muslim player’s defence.
Granada offers an accessible but thoughtful treatment of a major turning point in Iberian history, with strong replay value from route choices, hidden strength, card timing and the tension between quick offensives and careful preparation.
Contents include: one 22″ x 34″ mounted map, 137 rectangular wooden blocks, two sheets of block stickers, two draw bags, wooden castles, cylinders, cubes and markers, three decks of cards, one Victory Point track, two reference cards, and one rules booklet.
