Maori: Warriors of the Long White Cloud

Maori: Warriors of the Long White Cloud is a card-driven strategy wargame set in Aotearoa around 1450 AD.

Players begin with a single iwi and must expand their influence across North Island by recruiting neighboring iwi, building villages, training warriors, fortifying positions, and launching expeditions by land or war canoe. The game gives players real strategic freedom: build a strong land force, invest in mobility across the coasts, or adapt as the cards and rival chiefs reshape the board.

Action Cards drive the tempo of play and can be used for events or operations. They bring curses, omens, disasters, ambushes, haka, reaction plays, and sudden shifts of fortune into the struggle. Combat is straightforward, but card play and retreat results make battles tense and unpredictable.

This is not a game about perfect control. It is about leading in a volatile environment where opportunity, fear, prestige, and momentum matter. With area movement, varied force development, and support for one to four players, it offers a distinctive setting and a lively, flexible style of conflict.

Contents include: one mounted 22” x 34” map board, two sheets of large 3/4” counters, 110 Action Cards, four player aid cards, one rule booklet with designer’s notes, and four six-sided dice.
