Maori Wars covers the New Zealand Land Wars from 1845 to 1872, as British colonial forces, allied Queenite Māori, and hostile Māori forces struggle for control across the North Island. The game focuses on movement, alliances, raids, settlements, pā fortifications, and the difficult geography that shaped the conflict.

The British player must use stronger conventional forces, settlements, forts, rivers, and coastal movement to bring pressure across the island. The Māori player relies on mobility, tribal alliances, bush raiding, villages, pā, and the ability to choose when and where to fight. With several scenarios and a manageable rules load, it offers a compact treatment of a distinctive nineteenth-century colonial conflict.

Contents include: one 22" x 34" map, two countersheets with 354 counters, rules/scenario booklet, four player aid cards, one 8.5" x 11" Bush Raider map, game history sheet, and one six-sided die.
