Panzer Battles: 11th Panzer on the Chir River

Panzer Battles: 11th Panzer on the Chir River is a Standard Combat Series game on the German 11th Panzer Division’s famous mobile defensive battles against Soviet mechanized forces after Operation Uranus.

With the Stalingrad Pocket already sealed, Soviet forces pushed to tighten the ring and block any German relief attempt. Fresh from France and still at full strength, 11th Panzer struck into the Soviet advance under Hermann Balck and Friedrich von Mellenthin, creating one of the Eastern Front’s textbook examples of mobile defense and counterattack. The tactical success came at a strategic cost: the German forces needed for the northern relief effort were consumed, leaving the southern thrust to continue alone.

Using the clean and accessible SCS framework, Panzer Battles adds highly interactive formation chit-pull activation to capture the swirling tempo of these battles. Turns represent two days, the hex scale is 500 meters, and units are mostly companies and battalions.

Contents include the SCS rulebook version 1.8, a game-specific rulebook, two 22" x 34" maps, 280 counters, box, and dice. Four scenarios are included: the full Panzer Battles Campaign, State Farm 79, I’ll Be Balck, and Containment Battles.
