Platoon Commander Deluxe: The Battle of Kursk is a tactical World War II wargame covering platoon-level combat during the Battle of Kursk.
Players command German and Soviet infantry, tanks, assault guns, anti-tank weapons, mortars, aircraft, and support assets across mounted geomorphic maps. The game uses large 1” counters and clear visual design, making the battlefield easy to read even when things are going badly, which at Kursk is a reasonable expectation.
The system is card-assisted rather than fully card-driven. Action cards add artillery, rally support, combat shifts, opportunity fire, and other battlefield surprises, while core combat still comes from positioning, firepower, morale, armour, and terrain.
Turns move through initiative, action cards, rally, fire, movement, close assault, and command emphasis through Aid and Focus markers. The result is a tactical game with plenty of uncertainty, but without needing to bury the table under unnecessary clutter.
It is a good fit for players who want a big-box Eastern Front tactical game with readable components, tanks, infantry, artillery, and the kind of battlefield where “just one more attack” is usually how the problem starts.
Contents include: 2 mounted 22” x 17” geomorphic maps, 4 sheets of thick 1” counters, action cards, rules, scenarios, and player aids.
