Prairie Aflame! The Northwest Rebellion of 1885 (2nd Edition)

Prairie Aflame! The Northwest Rebellion of 1885 (2nd Edition) is an operational wargame covering Canada’s Northwest Rebellion, in which Métis and First Nations forces confront the Canadian government’s military response.

The game begins with the crisis at Duck Lake and expands into a campaign where Ottawa must prevent the rebellion from spreading across the Northwest. Government forces include battalions, Northwest Mounted Police detachments, militia, artillery, and Gatling guns, while the opposing forces include Métis, Woods Cree, and Plains Cree units.

Units can operate as battalions or break down into smaller elements. Battalions offer better morale, while breakdown units provide greater mobility. Leaders play an important role, and the campaign’s pressure comes from movement, morale, supply, local control, and the risk of wider unrest.

The second edition keeps the original map artwork while updating the counter art and incorporating known errata. With three battle scenarios and three campaign scenarios, Prairie Aflame! offers a focused treatment of a rarely covered nineteenth-century conflict.
