Soldier Kings: The Potato War is a 64-page supplement for Avalanche Press’ Soldier Kings, adding the War of the Bavarian Succession to the game’s system of dynastic rivalry, diplomacy and 18th-century conflict.
The scenario focuses on the 1778 crisis following the death of the Elector of Bavaria. Austria sought to take control of Bavaria, Prussia moved to block the attempt, and the wider diplomatic situation pulled in France, Russia and Britain against the backdrop of unrest in the American colonies.
Known more colourfully as the Potato War, the conflict was marked less by decisive battlefield glory than by manoeuvre, supply problems, diplomacy and armies scouring the countryside for food. That makes it a fitting subject for players who enjoy the political and logistical side of 18th-century warfare.
Contents include: a 64-page supplement book, a new Potato War scenario, new playing pieces, optional rules and additional options for use with Soldier Kings.
