The Campaigns of Italy 1859–1866

The Campaigns of Italy 1859–1866 is a Vae Victis wargame on the Italian wars of independence against Austria in the mid-nineteenth century.

The game covers two connected campaigns. In 1859, Piedmont-Sardinia and France challenge Austrian control in northern Italy, with the fighting moving across the Po Valley from Turin and Milan toward the great battles of Magenta and Solferino. In 1866, the newly unified Kingdom of Italy again confronts Austria, seeking to complete its national territory while facing an experienced and resilient opponent.

Volume II in the Bouton de Guêtre series, The Campaigns of Italy 1859–1866 uses a system suited to mid-nineteenth-century European operational warfare, with movement, river crossings, campaign timing, and the balance between maneuver and decisive battle all playing important roles.

Contents include: two 59 x 41 cm maps, 216 die-cut counters and markers, one rule book, four scenarios plus one campaign, and two player aids.
