Players take the roles of surviving leaders trying to defeat the armies of Vesh across a campaign of 7 stories and 12 scenarios, exploring the world, gathering resources, completing quests, improving characters, and facing dangerous tactical battles.

This refreshed edition keeps the core identity of The City of Kings while making the game more approachable. The updated rules give players more control, adjust resource-gathering risk, make quests more flexible, and introduce alternative creature stat cards for players who want a slightly less punishing experience without turning it into an easy game.

Unlike many fantasy adventure games, The City of Kings focuses heavily on problem-solving and planning. Combat is not just about rushing into enemies: players need to manage positioning, resources, character growth, equipment, quests, and the scenario objectives if they want to survive.
