Velikiye Luki: Stalingrad of the North, 1942 is a compact World War II wargame covering the bitter winter battle for Velikiye Luki during the 1942–1943 campaign on the Eastern Front.

The Soviet objective is to liberate the city and cut the important north-south rail line west of Velikiye Luki. German forces must hold the fortified city and attempt to relieve the surrounded garrison before Soviet pressure and attrition make the position untenable.

The game focuses on encirclement, relief attempts, fortified defence, Soviet assaults, and the operational importance of the rail line near Novosokolniki. It gives players a small-format treatment of a hard-fought Eastern Front battle sometimes called “the Stalingrad of the North.”
