A Glorious Chance

A Glorious Chance is a solitaire operational wargame set on Lake Ontario during the War of 1812, putting you in command of the U.S. or British naval squadron in 1813.

Over eight turns covering June to September, you must patrol the lake, escort convoys, support land operations, intercept enemy movements, and try to dominate the key zones of Lake Ontario. Each mission can help secure control and supply, but it may also trigger a sudden battle with the opposing squadron.

The game uses a dynamic card-driven AI opponent to determine enemy activity. Target cards reveal where the enemy may appear, what mission they are attempting, and how much strength they commit. Enemy ships may also refit, remain in the shipyard for improvements, launch raids, or disrupt your supply routes.

Combat is resolved through odds-based naval battles modified by tactics chits, while land-support missions can influence army operations ashore. Supply convoys, blockade, ship construction, and control of lake zones all feed into the wider operational picture.

This is a strong choice for solo players interested in War of 1812 naval warfare, operational decision-making, and the tension of commanding a small squadron where one hard-fought battle can change the whole campaign.
