Against the Odds #27: The Pocket at Falaise – Limited Edition is a magazine-format World War II wargame on the final phase of the Allied Normandy campaign in August 1944.
Product Type: Magazine issue with included wargame.
After the failure of Hitler’s counterattack to stop the Allied breakout from Normandy, the German 7th Army and 5th Panzer Army began withdrawing toward the Orne and Dives rivers. Allied forces attempted to close the trap around the Falaise Pocket before the Germans could escape eastward.
Designed by Ted Raicer, The Pocket at Falaise puts both players under pressure. The Germans must fight their way out of a trap created in part by their own high command, while the Allies must close the pocket despite command delays, weak contact forces, and coordination problems. The result is a battlefield where retreating German units often have to attack, while advancing Allied units must hold desperate blocking positions.
The game uses chit-pull activation to capture the chaos of the operation, with a scale that sits between tactical and operational play. A complete solitaire rules set is also included.
Contents include: one full-color 22” x 34” hex map, 198 full-color 9/16” die-cut counters, 10 pages of rules, 2 pages of charts and tables, solitaire rules, and Against the Odds issue #27.
