Against the Odds #50: Die Atombombe – The Reich’s Bid to Build the Bomb is a magazine-format card-driven game about the German nuclear weapons effort during the Second World War.
Product Type: Magazine issue with included card game.
In Die Atombombe, 2 to 5 players represent competing factions within the German government, military, and industrial system. Each faction tries to influence research institutes, recruit scientists, acquire scarce resources, spy on rivals, and push its own version of an atomic programme forward.
The game is not a conventional battlefield wargame. Instead, it focuses on bureaucracy, rivalry, research, resources, and the growing pressure of a war Germany is losing. Players may pursue nuclear weapons, hoard knowledge for imagined post-war advantage, or sabotage competitors while Allied bombing and the Soviet advance make real progress increasingly difficult.
Fast-playing and unusual for the ATO line, Die Atombombe turns the German atomic project into a tense multi-player card game about ambition, delusion, scarcity, and scientific uncertainty.
Contents include: 108 playing cards, 64 large 5/8” die-cut counters, 10 pages of rules, 1 page of charts and tables, and Against the Odds issue #50.
