D-Day at Saipan is a solitaire World War II board wargame from Decision Games covering the first five days of the U.S. invasion of Saipan, from 15 to 19 June 1944. The player controls the U.S. Marine and Army forces landing on the island, while the game system controls the Japanese defenders.
Product Type: Solitaire boxed wargame.
Designer Joe Youst builds on John Butterfield’s solitaire D-Day system, using no-dice combat to emphasize hidden enemy deployments, tactical coordination, and the correct use of weapons and support. The game adds Japanese infiltration rules that pressure the player to maintain a continuous line, plus card-driven Japanese tank attacks that can combine armor with nearby defending units.
Scenarios cover D-Day, expansion of the beachhead, the drive to Aslito Airfield and Garapan, and the full five-day campaign.
Contents include: one 34×22 inch mounted board, 528 die-cut counters, 55 playing cards, rules booklet, one 11×17 inch scenario setup diagram, six 8.5×11 inch player-aid cards, and storage bags.
