Festung Europa: The Campaign for Western Europe 1943-1945

Festung Europa: The Campaign for Western Europe 1943-1945 is a two-player card-driven WWII wargame from Compass Games covering the Allied campaign in Western Europe. Designed by Michael Rinella, it follows the struggle from the invasion of the continent through the drive toward Germany and Central Europe.

The Allied player must use air power, naval superiority, mobility and economic strength to invade Europe, defeat Axis forces and advance before time runs out. The Axis player must delay, counterattack where possible and use interior lines, fortress positions and terrain to prevent the Allies from reaching German soil too quickly.

Compared with many card-driven campaign games, Festung Europa streamlines special cases and action-round restrictions, helping players focus on strategic choices rather than rules overhead. The full campaign lasts a maximum of ten turns and can be played in an evening, while the included Operation Overlord scenario offers a shorter option.

This is a good fit for players who enjoy card-driven World War II games, Western Front campaigns and strategic contests where timing, initiative and pressure matter more than detailed tactical chrome.

Contents include: one 22″ x 34″ paper map, 110 playing cards in Allied and Axis decks, one rulebook, one full sheet of 176 5/8″ counters and markers, one half sheet of 130 1/2″ control markers, two player aid cards, and two 6-sided dice.
