Grant: The Western Campaign of 1862 is an operational Civil War wargame covering the pivotal Tennessee campaign that launched Ulysses S. Grant into prominence.

Players take control of either the Union or Confederate forces, managing multiple armies across a point-to-point map where rivers are just as important as roads. The Union must coordinate advances along the Tennessee and Mississippi Rivers, aiming to secure key objectives like Nashville, Corinth, and Island Number Ten. The Confederates, meanwhile, must delay, disrupt, and strike back at the right moment—potentially turning defense into opportunity.

At the heart of the system is a chit-pull activation mechanic that introduces uncertainty and models command friction, ensuring no two turns unfold the same way. Movement, combat, and reaction are tightly interwoven, with naval support, gunboats, and river transport playing a central role alongside land operations.
