How the Union was Saved: The American Civil War 1861–1865 is a two-player strategic wargame covering the entire American Civil War.
Product Type: Standalone boxed wargame.
One player controls the forces and resources of the Union, while the other commands the Confederacy. Each game turn represents roughly three months, forcing both sides to manage limited resource points, maintain supply through depot chains, construct fortifications, and choose where to commit their armies.
Fog of war plays a major role. Only army commanders appear openly on the map, while the real strength of the artillery, cavalry, and infantry under their command remains hidden until battle is joined. This makes bluffing, manoeuvre, and logistics central to the campaign.
Contents include: 1 mounted game map, 18 Union and Confederacy field army holders, sticky labels, 61 commander counters, 232 counters and markers, 2 fog-of-war screens, 40 random event cards, 2 six-sided dice, extended example of play, and rulebook.
