This second edition includes thoroughly revised rulebooks, upgraded counters, corrected setup information, and a reprinted campaign map covering European Russia from Tilsit to Moscow. The game operates at a grand campaign scale, with turns averaging five days, leaders deployed on the map, and corps-level combat units tracking their changing strengths on off-map displays.

Using OSG’s Campaigns of Napoleon system, Highway to the Kremlin II emphasizes movement, command, attrition, depots, supply lines, and the hard operational choices of the Russian campaign. The French player must drive deep into Russia while maintaining cohesion and logistics; the Russian player must trade space, preserve forces, and choose when and where to stand.

Scenarios include Opening Moves, Borodino, the Retreat, Berezina, and the larger campaign game. Playing time ranges from shorter scenarios to a full campaign of several hours.
