Paper Wars 97: Battle for Galicia

Paper Wars 97: Battle for Galicia is a Paper Wars magazine issue with an enclosed wargame covering the opening 1914 campaign between Imperial Russia and Austria-Hungary.

Players command the opposing armies during the simultaneous offensives in Galicia and southern Poland: the Austro-Hungarian drive toward Lublin and the Russian attack toward Lemberg. The system is designed to be low complexity while still highlighting the campaign’s key operational problems, including maneuver, combat effectiveness, recovery, and the pressure of geography.

With 12 turns covering August 23 to September 15, division and brigade-scale units, and a compact 11” x 17” map, this is an accessible treatment of a less commonly gamed First World War campaign.
