Philadelphia 1777

Philadelphia 1777 is a two-player block wargame from Worthington Publishing covering General Howe’s 1777 campaign against Washington’s Continental Army. The British player attempts to drive the campaign toward Philadelphia, while the American player must delay, maneuver, and choose the right moments to fight.

The game is part of Worthington’s Campaigns of the American Revolution series and uses the same core system as New York 1776, Trenton 1776, and Saratoga 1777. Movement is point-to-point, with labelled wooden blocks providing fog of war and step strength.

Each turn, both players receive activation points that can be used to activate leaders with groups of blocks or individual units. When opposing blocks end movement in the same location, a battle occurs. The system keeps the campaign accessible while still giving both sides meaningful strategic choices around leaders, timing, movement routes, and when to force combat.
