Louisbourg 1758

Louisbourg 1758 is a two-player historical wargame from Worthington Publishing covering the British campaign to capture the French fortress of Louisbourg during the French and Indian War. One player commands the British, trying to occupy the fortress with land forces or seize Louisbourg Harbour with ships. The other commands the French, trying to hold out until the end of the game.

The siege was a key contest in the struggle for New France. Louisbourg protected the gateway to the Saint Lawrence River, and although the fortress eventually fell, its defense delayed British operations against Quebec and the interior of New France. That strategic pressure is reflected in the game’s race between British assault and French endurance.

The game lasts 16 turns, with each turn including operational, bombardment, and player action phases. Players use actions to move army units, conduct amphibious moves, raid, and move ships between sea areas. Bombardment, land movement, naval positioning, and battles around the fortress all matter, giving the campaign a compact but focused siege structure.

Wooden blocks represent British and French units, including regulars, light infantry, rangers, militia, Indigenous forces, and ships. A shared operations card deck adds tactical options and uncertainty, with each side able to use only cards marked for its own faction.
