Shiloh: Bloody April, 1862 is Volume 1 in Paul Koenig’s Bloody Civil War Series, covering the Battle of Shiloh during the American Civil War.
In April 1862, Grant’s Army of the Tennessee was gathering at Pittsburg Landing, intending to link up with Buell’s Army of the Ohio before moving against the vital Confederate rail junction at Corinth. The Confederates, led by Albert Sidney Johnston, struck first in an attempt to crush Grant before Union reinforcements could arrive.
The Confederate player must hit hard on the first day and exploit the surprise before the battle turns against them. The Union player must hold Pittsburg Landing at all costs, buying time until Buell’s troops arrive and the balance shifts.
The Bloody Civil War Series is designed as an accessible, classic hex-and-counter battle system rather than a heavy command-and-supply simulation. The Designer’s Edition restores elements closer to the designer’s original intent, with changes to the map, counters, CRT, and battlefield details.
Format: Boxed game.
Contents include: one 25" x 40" map, two countersheets with 88 game pieces each, three battle charts, one player aid chart, one rulebook, and one six-sided die.
