SKYHAWK: Rolling Thunder, 1966 is a solitaire air-war game that puts the player in the cockpit of a U.S. Navy A-4E Skyhawk during the early phase of Operation Rolling Thunder.
Operating from the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt at Yankee Station, you fly strike missions against targets in North Vietnam. Each mission begins with planning and loadout decisions, as you choose ordnance for the target and prepare for the threats ahead. Political restrictions and government interference may also affect your target or weapons load.
Once airborne, the Skyhawk may face small arms fire, anti-aircraft artillery, SAM launches, and the occasional MiG. Support forces can be used to attack North Vietnamese defences before your own strike run, but survival is never guaranteed.
The game can be played as a single mission or as one of three campaigns, including two historical tours of duty and a combined campaign with additional rules. SKYHAWK is not intended as a detailed simulation of the entire Rolling Thunder campaign; instead, it offers a focused, quick-playing solitaire experience built around mission planning, aircraft survival, target attack, and pilot fate.
This is a strong choice for solitaire players interested in Vietnam air operations, narrative mission games, and “in-the-cockpit” style wargames.
