South China Sea

South China Sea is a modern political-military wargame covering near-future tension and possible conflict in the South China Sea.

Players represent China, the United States, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, using political cards and negotiation to shift influence before open conflict begins. The most powerful political actions can also be the most dangerous, as escalating incidents may trigger a transition from diplomacy to armed conflict.

When fighting begins, the game shifts into a detailed hex-and-counter system with aircraft squadrons, ship and submarine pairs, and land battalions. Naval movement, stealth, anti-ship missile ranges, air strikes, and negotiations all combine to create a tense and volatile modern battlespace.

Derived from Breaking the Chains, South China Sea offers a tighter geographic focus and streamlined play, making it a strong choice for players interested in modern naval conflict, crisis escalation, and the dangerous space between political pressure and shooting war.

Contents include: two map sheets forming a playing area of about 21” x 41”, three countersheets with 390 3/4” counters, a deck of 37 political cards, two player aid cards, rule/scenario book, two dice, and a box with lid.
