Strategy & Tactics #297: 1863 – Turning Point in the Civil War is a magazine-format issue from Strategy & Tactics Press / Decision Games covering the pivotal 1863 campaigns of the American Civil War.
Product Type: Magazine-format issue with included wargame.
The included game, 1863: Turning Point in the Civil War, is a two-player wargame focused on the year that saw Union victories at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, as well as the Chattanooga–Chickamauga campaigns. Players compete for victory points by seizing key cities and winning battles across the Eastern and Western Theaters.
The game uses an unusual split-command structure: one player commands the Union in the Eastern Theater and the Confederates in the Western Theater, while the other commands the Union in the West and the Confederates in the East. Both players are therefore trying to succeed with one side while frustrating themselves, historically speaking, somewhere else on the map.
Units represent corps, divisions, and individual leaders with their staffs. Each turn represents one month.
Contents include: one 22×34 inch map and 176 counters.
