The Russian Empire Strikes Back: Lodz 1914

The Russian Empire Strikes Back: Lodz 1914 is an operational-level World War I wargame from White Dog Games covering the first Battle of Lodz, fought from 11 November to mid-December 1914. The game is designed for two players, with rules for solitaire play also included.

The German Ninth Army has been ordered to strike Russian forces preparing to invade German Silesia. In fierce winter conditions, the Germans drive between the Russian First and Second Armies near Lodz, only for the Russian Fifth Army to march rapidly and attack the German flank. The result is a tense battle of manoeuvre, pressure, and counterattack, with the German army itself at risk of encirclement.

This is a compact operational wargame for players interested in World War I’s Eastern Front, mobile campaigns, and battles where both sides are trying to outmanoeuvre rather than simply grind each other down.
