Players take the roles of major Germanic tribal confederations — the Franks, Alemanni, Vandals, or Goths — each trying to be the first to lead one of their tribes into Rome. The route is blocked by Roman legions, plagues, unpredictable events, rival tribes, and shifting diplomacy.

Designed for two to four players, Voelkerwanderung! combines movement, negotiation, deal-making, and betrayal in a fast-playing contest where no player is eliminated before the end, and even a trailing faction can still seize victory at the final moment.
