World at War #36: Winterstorm – The Stalingrad Relief Attempt is a magazine-format issue from Strategy & Tactics Press / Decision Games covering the German attempt to break through to the encircled Sixth Army at Stalingrad in December 1942.
Product Type: Magazine-format issue with included wargame.
The included game, Winterstorm, is the fourth entry in Joseph Miranda’s East Front Battles system. German forces begin on the Aksay River and must fight across the map toward the roads beyond the Myshkova River, attempting to open a path to the Stalingrad pocket before time and Soviet strength close in.
The system emphasizes command control, headquarters coordination, and combined arms. Combat units include infantry, armor, and supporting weapons, each with distinct strengths and weaknesses. The German player relies on mobility and flexibility, while the Soviet player brings numbers, combat power, and the ability to block the relief attempt.
The issue also includes historical articles on British involvement in the Battle of the Bulge, Axis visions for a postwar order, and Operation Thursday in Burma.
Components include: one 22×34 inch map and 228 counters.
