Devil Boats: PT Boats in the Solomons

Devil Boats: PT Boats in the Solomons is a solitaire tactical WWII naval game from Compass Games. You command a squadron of four US Navy PT boats operating from Rendova Island during the 1943 campaign in the Solomon Islands.

Your main task is to intercept Japanese barges carrying troops and supplies, but each patrol can bring new trouble. Enemy aircraft, destroyers, shore guns, machine gun nests, bad weather, reefs and random events can all turn a night mission into a dangerous fight for survival. Special missions may send you to rescue downed airmen, deliver supplies to coastwatchers or shell enemy positions.

The game tracks individual PT boats, crewmen, weapons and equipment. Crew members can be wounded, killed, fall ill or improve through experience, while radios, radar, engines, guns and bilge pumps can be damaged during missions. Between patrols, you manage assignments and repairs as you try to keep the squadron operating.

With most patrols playable in 15-30 minutes and campaign options covering one, two or three months, Devil Boats gives solo players a detailed but accessible PT boat campaign with plenty of replay value.
