Malta Besieged: 1940–1942 Deluxe Edition

Malta Besieged: 1940–1942 Deluxe Edition is a solitaire WWII wargame from Worthington Publishing, designed by Steve Carey. The player commands the Commonwealth effort in the Mediterranean, trying to keep Malta supplied, reinforced, and politically alive while Axis air, naval, and land pressure builds around the island.

This is a States of Siege game, so pressure comes from multiple fronts rather than from a traditional two-player opponent. German and Italian forces threaten Malta directly, while Rommel’s Afrika Korps creates a wider North African crisis that the player cannot ignore. Convoys, supply, morale, military readiness, ULTRA intelligence, fortifications, raiding, and naval support all become part of the same survival problem.

The Deluxe Edition upgrades the original Victory Point Games release with a larger mounted map, standard-sized cards, a deluxe box, and a full graphic overhaul. The design itself remains close to the original, with rules clarifications and improved physical presentation rather than a completely rebuilt system.

Victory depends on more than simply keeping Malta from falling. The player must survive the Axis onslaught while also handling the North African situation, with results ranging from defeat to draw, marginal victory, or decisive victory depending on how well Malta and the wider theatre are managed.
