Pacific War: The Struggle Against Japan 1941-1945 is Mark Herman’s large-scale operational and strategic wargame covering the war against Japan, from Pearl Harbor to the final campaigns of 1945.
This is a deep air-land-sea system that lets players explore battles, campaigns, and full strategic scenarios across the Pacific. The game covers carrier warfare, surface actions, amphibious invasions, land campaigns, search and detection, logistics, submarine warfare, and strategic bombing. It is not a light treatment of the subject, and does not pretend to be one.
What makes Pacific War especially interesting is its layered scenario structure. Players can begin with smaller engagement scenarios, then move into battles, campaign scenarios, and eventually the larger strategic games. That gives the system a real path of entry despite its size.
The game’s command and intelligence systems are central to the experience. Players must decide where to spend limited operational resources, how much risk to accept, and when to commit forces before the full enemy picture is clear. The result is a tense, detailed simulation of a vast conflict where timing, logistics, detection, and naval-air coordination all matter.
This is best suited for experienced wargamers who want a serious Pacific Theater game with huge scope, historical detail, and many playable scenario options.
Contents include: two mounted maps, scenario map, ten countersheets, rules booklet, background booklet, three scenario booklets, player screens, force displays, operation display, record sheets, and two ten-sided dice.
