Paper Wars 99: Assault on Tobruk

Paper Wars 99: Assault on Tobruk is a Paper Wars magazine issue with an enclosed wargame covering the fall of Tobruk on June 20, 1942.

Players command Axis and Allied forces during Rommel’s sudden assault on the fortress port after the collapse of the Gazala line. The game depicts the entire Tobruk perimeter, with company-scale units and two-hour turns creating a focused treatment of a battle that was historically over with startling speed.

Seven scenarios are included, covering the historical action as well as alternative possibilities involving Allied command, artillery coordination, tactics, and Axis attack plans. The result is a low-complexity, fast-playing game about an assault that might have gone very differently.
